ALM Director Of Development Job Description



The Arts League of Michigan (ALM) seeks a Director of Development responsible for the design, implementation and on-going evaluation of ALM’s fundraising efforts. This two-year grant funded position is renewable upon future funding through candidate’s efforts. Working with ALM’s President and grant partner Cranbrook Educational Community, primary focus will be on expanding ALM’s donor base and increasing its unrestricted and designated funding through the hands-on development of annual fund, membership, sponsorship and other annual giving programs. Responsibilities include the writing of appeal letters, sponsorship proposals and gift acknowledgment letters; designing and managing any special fundraising events and/or telemarketing campaigns; supervising of the creation of marketing materials to support fundraising efforts; establishing, managing, and maintaining office systems and databases to support all development projects and operations; prospect and donor cultivation; and reporting progress to grant partners.

Bachelor’s degree with 3 years experience in development required, preferably with annual fund or membership expertise. Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work with diverse constituencies, and an entrepreneurial spirit are essential, along with computer proficiency in Excel, Word and fundraising software. Passion for the arts, knowledge of the local philanthropic community, grant writing or major gifts experience a plus. Some night and weekend work required.
